New Deacons in Portland

Archbishop John Vlazny, of the Archdiocese of Portland, recently ordained three men to the permanent diaconate . . . among them was a Holy Redeemer parishioner and colleague of mine, now Rev. Mr. John Rilatt.

John and I worked closely together on the renovation of Holy Redeemer Church, when John served as our Director of Maintenance, before moving on to a new position in Campus Ministry at Central Catholic High School.

You can see above, that John had to learn that deacons are to assist the priest, not watch or supervise them! You know I'm kidding, John ;) It was my great honor to be bit-player in John's formation and to watch him progress toward this wonderful day.
