Back when I was in high school and college the Koeth family would gather annually for a family golf outing. It was no small affair - it came complete with an official clothing line, prizes and a post-round dinner!
It's been quite some time since an outing of that magnitude has been organized, but this past week my uncle Tim organized a round of golf with me, my Dad and my brother Matthew at Silver Lakes Golf Course here on Staten Island. Afterwards, Mom, my aunt Ginny, and my sister-in-law-to-be Christine joined us for dinner.
Though it was a 90 degree day, the humidity was low and there was a nice breeze. We began our round just ahead of schedule and easily worked our way around a CYO tournament that was being played on the course that day.
By the time we finished our round; in record time thanks to a quick pace of play; it was a delightful summer evening for al fresco dining.
Silver Lakes has a recently renovated and expanded restaurant in its clubhouse and we enjoyed a fine meal as the sun set over the fairways.
