This weekend the Portland area was plunged into a deep freeze as Arctic air blasted through the Columbia River Gorge and into the Willamette Valley. As predicted, along with it came strong winds and some snow.
The valley floor did get some snow (about an inch total - the picture above shows the very beginning of the snow) but higher elevations got much, much more. As a result, we had only about half as many people at our Sunday Masses as would usually attend. And then, yesterday school was cancelled!
While I was thrilled for any amount of snow we could get, I was flabbergasted that people were so nervous about it and that school was cancelled. It was such a tiny little thing it was hardly worth noticing - and yet the city came to a stop.
The much better news is that the cold continues and the forecasters are predicting much more snow!! We are preparing for the possibility of several inches (2"-6") tonight and tomorrow. Then, if all goes well, there is a chance for 10" this weekend!! At this point I am very much looking forward to it all. If it affects my Christmas travel, that might be a different story ;)
