Yesterday the newly re-opened rectory patio hosted its first major event of the summer - a fourth of July barbecue for an assortment of Holy Cross and UP friends.
Walter served as grill-master and we enjoyed beautiful cheeseburgers, brats and dogs . . . along with corn on the cob, and an assortment of side salads . . .
. . . there were ice cream sandwiches for the kids (including my goddaughter Lucy) . . . 
and fireworks (or at least sparklers) as well!
Later in the evening I was the guest of Marty and Peggy Dollar at their home on the Columbia River. Their second floor deck gave us spectacular views of the Fort Vancouver, Washington fireworks display, which is said to be the largest display west of the Mississippi. All around it was a lovely holiday.
