Yesterday was the last day of classes at the University of Notre Dame, and though our confreres at Holy Cross College still had a few classes to get through today, a good number of the men in formation spent this morning participating in the annual Moreau Seminary Golf Scramble.
Held at the University's Warren Golf Course, this best-ball tournament is a great opportunity for the youngest members of our community to mix with a great cross-section of the finally professed community - perhaps especially with a number of our men who are semi-retired.
I was paired with Old Collegian Mike Palmer (below), Candidate seminarian Tim Mouton (seen at the tee below) and Fr. Chuck Lavely, CSC who serves as the Assistant Superior of Holy Cross House, our community nursing home.
We had a great time together, and our play complimented each other perfectly: when one person was struggling, someone else stepped up and hit the shot we needed. I was particularly pleased to have contributed well after taking a year and half long hiatus from the links. On the 16th hole, a 270 yard hole which we parred, our team used all four of my strokes!
When everyone had finished their round, we gathered at the lovely Warren Grille for lunch out on the back patio, overlooking the 18th green.
With study days just under way, and finals to commence on Monday, this was a great way to celebrate the end of another successful semester and to enjoy the lovely spring weather we've been having.
