Right as I finished saying the morning Mass it began snowing as the forecasters here had predicted. We got about two inches of snow by lunch time - but since the snow was barely starting as the school day began, we did indeed have school.
Our principal, Anna Raineri, decided that during their recess periods the school children would be allowed to play outside. The kids were absolutely ecstatic about the whole thing, and kept thanking her for "the snow day" she had given them.
While there were plenty of good natured snowball fights, nothing got out of hand. And throughout the day there was a palpable sense of joy over such a simple but beautiful thing.
